Factory Furniture Carts from Relic Salvage

October 7, 2011

Hey everyone.  A few months ago I was lucky to come across several  antique factory carts, manufactured by the Lineberry company in Wilkesboro, North Carolina.

Often called railroad carts, these beautiful carts were originally used in railroad depots for transporting trunks, and were later used in furniture factories for moving large pieces from one specialist artisan to the next.

A lot of companies restore these beauties so good that they lack the character it took 80 years to make!

At Relic Salvage Company, we only restore and clean enough to reveal the true piece of art work these carts really are.

This cart had no top at all when we received it.  The lumber used for the top is reclaimed from Pine beams from a factory in Downtown Greenville, SC.  The boards were lightly planed to leave the original white paint still showing through.  We then applied our 3 stain technique to bring out the natural beauty of the wood.  The final step is 3 coats of pre-catalyzed clear lacquer for a smooth finish.

This cart in your living room automatically makes you cooler…just sayin
